Mobilane’s Green Screens shine in the enchanting garden transformation of Huize Zonnewijzer

The Ones at Home, initiated by garden architect Erwin Stam and sculptor and art photographer Micky Hoogendijk, aimed to breathe new life into Huize Zonnewijzer on Valeriusplein in Amsterdam. This protected city villa, designed by architect Jan Baanders in 1919, has been transformed into a space that connects art and nature. Stam has not only provided a home for Hoogendijk’s bronze sculptures in this environment but has also turned the outdoor areas into an exhibition for these artworks.

Garden Transformation

Micky Hoogendijk explains the reason for the garden transformation and design: “We had the opportunity to rent Huize Zonnewijzer and create a beautiful sculpture garden. The building was allowed to be transformed into my gallery, and we wanted to set an example for future projects with Erwin.”

For the hedges in the garden of Huize Zonnewijzer, Erwin Stam chose Mobilane’s Green Screen. He explains, “We needed more privacy in the garden for this project. The height of 1.80 meters was just right for the view to the neighbors. For the green appearance, which was a prerequisite for me, we chose Hedera helix ‘Woerner,’ a robust climbing plant.” The visual appeal was also emphasized: “Visually, it is appealing that it does not take up much space, and the height fits perfectly. It is a narrow but high hedge that adds aesthetic value to the garden.”

An Important Role

Regarding the role of hedges in the garden, Micky Hoogendijk explained, “The hedges play a significant role. The fact that they were already full-grown was an important element. In the past, I moved into a house and planted hedges myself, but it took three years for them to look decent. With the Green Screen from Mobilane, you immediately saw the end result. They brought size back to the garden and provided privacy.”

The garden of Huize Zonnewijzer has been transformed into an outdoor area of inspiration in the heart of Amsterdam. Meetings and exhibitions regularly take place there. Micky Hoogendijk notes, “Guests react positively to the Green Screens from Mobilane. The screens create a feeling of security and space. Erwin has created a beautiful entrance with the screens on the side of the house, where now about 15 people can enjoy the scenery. The Green Screens provides protection and create the illusion of additional space. Although the building may seem distant from the outside, it opens up once you enter the garden, becoming a warm and inviting place.”
