A planted building facade with green screen panels
Since 2002, Mobilane has been at the forefront of the development and use of Mobilane Green Screens in landscape and screening projects. The development of the WallPlanter system was an extension of this; a combination of numerous Green Screens into a sustainable system for green facades on existing and new buildings. Made up of specially developed planters into which fully-established hedge screens are planted, the WallPlanter screen network is attached to the building’s outer layer, creating a natural planted covering that not only looks attractive but works hard reducing PM10 pollutants, improving air quality and bringing a splash of nature on built structures such as multi-storey car parks, hotel and office complexes.
Instant greenery
A WallPlanter facade gives immediate natural foliage impact from Day One. Aluminium planters are planted with mature Mobilane Green Screens, grown on the nursery and delivered, fully-grown, ready for action. Commonly planted with Hedera Helix Woerner, this hardy dark-green ivy variety holds its evergreen foliage, all year round.

Low maintenance
With its smart automated irrigation and drainage systems, a WallPlanter green facade installation becomes self-sufficient for water and nutrients, requiring limited maintenance and upkeep.
Positive environmental impact
Its presence also contributes positively to the environment and the visual amenity. The dense foliage within the WallPlanter system works hard filtering the air in busy urban areas, improving the air quality and removing harmful pollutants from the surrounding neighbourhood.
Enhancing biodiversity further
Insects like bees are essential to our biodiversity. They play a crucial role in the pollination of our nature and contribute to the reproduction and development of our flora. The plants and flowers that grow as a result provide food and shelter to other animals, including humans. A professional bee hotel or nesting box provides a safe nesting, resting, and overwintering place.
The nesting boxes and bee hotels are made in a social workplace using sustainable Dutch Douglas wood. All nesting boxes and bee hotels comply with the guidelines of BIJ 12. These boxes are perfectly suitable for meeting the requirements of the Nature Conservation Act or for use in achieving BREEAM certification, which requires the placement of nesting boxes. The nesting boxes and bee hotels can be placed in or around all outdoor products from Mobilane and are available in various types and sizes. Frequently Asked Questions
Systems such as WallPlanter are particularly well suited to car parks, office buildings, and hotels, for both new-build and retrofit projects. The pre-grown planter units can be installed regardless of facade orientation, providing a flexible solution for a wide variety of building types.
A standard planter unit weighs approximately 140 kg per m² of planted wall surface when fully saturated with water. Depending on the facade construction and foundation, a robust support structure is required, either fixed directly to the facade or designed as a freestanding ground-supported structure.
Each planter is continuously supplied with water and nutrients through an automated irrigation system. An integrated drainage system removes excess water, for example after heavy rainfall, while ensuring sufficient oxygen reaches the roots for healthy plant growth.
Yes. The aluminium planter units can optionally be fitted with front planting and/or a powder-coated finish in a range of colours. This allows the green facade to be tailored to complement the architecture and design concept of the building.
One example is the Pro-Logis Hayes Distribution Centre in Hayes, UK, where more than 500 m² of vertical greenery was installed across two buildings using the WallPlanter system. The project captures approximately 1,150 kg of CO₂ and produces around 850 kg of oxygen each year—comparable to the environmental impact of 45 trees.
