Green oasis becomes the visual highlight of Cologne-Wesseling

The owner of a residential and office building in Cologne-Wesseling in Germany wanted a unique design for the facade to improve the appearance of the whole building. Achim Eilingsfeld from the Gefässerie in Hammelburg was responsible for the planning and execution. He recommended the LivePanel Outdoor green facade system from Mobilane to the owner. “The vertical greenery not only makes it visually attractive, the benefits are enormous. The vertical greenery improves the clean air quality, lowers the ambient temperature, reduces the ambient noise, and stimulates the biodiversity in the city.” In addition, according to Achim Eilingsfeld, “the positive effects of greenery on the general well-being of the residents should not be underestimated.”

The LivePanel Outdoor green wall system

In total, four green facades spanning approximately 165 square meters were realized with the patented LivePanel Outdoor system. The LivePanel is a modular, fully recyclable vertical green facade system filled with substrate and exchangeable plant cassettes with a measurement of 40 x 40 cm. For this project, more than 8000 cassettes with over 7000 plants were used. The installation of the LivePanel is simple and quick. Each row of plant cassettes is placed in a gutter profile that also serves as a water reservoir. The plants absorb water from the reservoir through capillary action. The plant cassettes are circular and the remaining components of the system are fully recyclable.

Only after a few weeks of installation of the green facade system, the owner, the residents and everyone living in the neighborhood could already enjoy the living building with the green oasis and all its benefits. Campanula Stella, Bergenia Bressingham White, Heuchera Frosted Violet, Carex Evergold, Carex Greenwell, Fragaria vesca, and Geranium Rozanne shine in the vertical plant wall.
