Energy giant BP United States has opened a new head office in the centre of Denver, designed by Tryba Architects. The office is a fusion of the city, the history of the environment and nature.
“The idea is to bring nature into and through the building,” says John McIntyre, director of Tryba Architects. “High on the riverbank gives a real feeling of being projected out of the building and into the landscape.”
Biophilic design: natural living, working and living environment
The river, a courtyard, floor to ceiling high glass walls and a huge wall full of living plants gives you an outdoor feeling in the new office of energy giant BP. The entire office is focused on Biophilic design. Biophilia is the ‘love of life or living systems’. In the grey and petrified cities with industrial architecture it feels as if this crucial bond with nature is practically lost. Biophilic design is an innovative way in the construction industry to consciously use natural elements in interior or architectural design in order to create connection and natural living, working and learning environments.
One way to bring nature inside is to integrate a green wall full of real plants into the office. Tryba Architects designed this for the new office of energy giant BP. In the lobby of the office is a 40 m2 wall placed full of hundreds of plants. The plant wall contributes to purifying the air in the office. The plants in a plant wall filter fine dust from the air and convert CO2 into oxygen. Green in offices is not self-evident, for example due to lack of space. The innovative ready-made green system LivePanel offers new possibilities to integrate green in offices and to contribute to a natural but above all healthy working environment.
