Multi-Storey Car Parks

Future-proof parking: Sustainable and green

Transport is crucial for the economy and gives us freedom. However, transport and traffic poses challenges in the areas of public health and climate change.

Despite the fact that modern technologies make transport safer, smoother and cleaner, traffic between cities is becoming increasingly intensive and the number of vehicles is growing. Futureproof car parks and multi-storey car parks have become an increasingly important factor to consider.

Green Parking

The greener a building’s design and credentials, the more likely it will succeed at tender. Green walls and green roofs can be used on existing and new-build multi-storey car parks. The use of greenery on a building helps promote its sustainable image and helps to attain additional green building certificates.

Advantages of green multi-storey car parks

Adding greenery to existing or new-build multi-storey car parks has benefits, both for the building and the local environment:

  • Increased property value
  • Prevention of graffiti
  • Insulating effect
  • Capture of harmful pollutants in the air
  • Low maintenance
  • Improvement of the indoor climate through oxygen production and particulate matter binding
  • Increased biodiversity
  • Reduce emissions
  • Rainwater absorption on green roofs

Air purification

Plants within a green wall or green roof contribute to air purification and the removal of harmful pollutant particles from car emissions. One square metre of the ivy (Hedera) screen of the WallPlanter system captures between 4g to 6g of particulate matter per year; a sedum roof 0.15g per square metre. A square metre of greenery helps to remove the particulate matter emissions from one car. Reducing the energy consumption of green buildings also reduces CO2 emissions.
Greenery can be used in both indoor and outdoor areas to remove pollutants (VOCs and particulate matter) from the air and to improve air quality.

Noise reduction

Greenery helps to distract and absorb sound from traffic and industrial noise. MobiRoof cassettes can reduce sound to 10 decibels. This makes a notable difference within the building, reducing noise pollution from car traffic. A green roof also works well against contact noises from rain, hail or birds. In addition, green roofs reduce sound reverberation by 3 decibels.

Biodiversity

Roof and walled greenery helps to stimulate and increase biodiversity. More biodiversity in urban areas improves living environments for people and wildlife and helps the occurrence of pests and diseases. Green walls provide food, shelter and nesting opportunities for birds and insects. Ivy green screens in the WallPlanter systems provide good coverage. With the LivePanel green wall system, add flowers and plants to attract a healthy level of insects and bees.

From design to installation and maintenance

To support you, Mobilane has its own technical expert team. Our team specialises in green walls and roofs. We recognise the importance of many factors along the design journey, including the location of the wall, technical requirements for the irrigation system, calculations, plant choice, permits and practical matters for the installation and advice on maintenance. Whether a simple or complex design for consideration on a green roof or vertical wall of a car park, we can be with you every step, sharing our knowledge.

The biggest WallPlanter in the UK: Bracknell Town Centre Regeneration

‘‘The majesty of the WallPlanter green expanse offers both beauty and function, shielding an otherwise bland car park façade whilst also allowing unhindered ventilation.’’

Car park gains a green facelift

‘‘This green wall installation on the parking facilities at Breda creates a fitting backdrop to the street and urban surroundings. This part of town now looks better and brings a refreshing view, particularly on warmer days. The planted wall also attracts interest from birds and bees. It helps soften its city surroundings and can have nothing but a positive effect on the climate.’’
