Green My School

Children achieve, play and learn better with plenty of clean oxygen

Clean air to breathe should be the norm for every child, but sadly this is not the case. Poor air quality in schools results in difficulty in concentrating and tiredness, among other things. Mobilane contributes to cleaner air by way of the GreenMySchool project: the Mobilane solutions allow every school to improve their air quality. It is possible to fund the entire project through government subsidies. We are available to help you with this process.

A greener classroom is a healthier classroom

It is important that the space where children spend a large part of the day for many years is also a safe and healthy space. We breathe on average 20,000 times a day. This is often more for children who play and run around. At school, children spend a large part of their day inside. Children are able to play and learn much better if the indoor air is clean and contains plenty of oxygen. Poor air quality in schools results in difficulty in concentrating and tiredness, and a faster spread of germs, among other things.

The impact of fine dust particulates

The main sources of air pollution are traffic and industry, with particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide and ozone (smog) contaminating the air. Coarse dust is the result of mechanical processes and airborne dust, the ultra-fine dust particulates are produced through combustion processes like in cars. The ultra-fine dust particulates are especially harmful and can force their way deep into the body via the lungs to cause damage. The World Health Organization (WHO) says that across the globe, more than 90 percent of children under 15 years old breathe air every day that is so polluted it may put their health at risk. Children are more vulnerable to polluted air because they breathe faster.

A healthy choice for the school playground

Research shows that the Mobilane Green Screen Hedera helix Woerner – Instant Ivy Hedge – absorbs up to 60% of nitrogen dioxide and (ultra) fine dust particulate concentrations. The Hedera remains green all year round and continuously produces new leaves. The growing leaf surface is a significant advantage for achieving the absorption of fine dust particulates from the air. The larger particulates stay on the leaf until rain washes them off, ultra-small particulates are so small that they end up as gas particles in the leaf’s stomata.

Benefits of plants in classrooms

  • Plants affect children’s wellbeing.
  • Healthy (indoor) climate thanks to oxygen production and reduction of air humidity
  • Children become more creative and experience less stress
  • Children are calmer and their ability to concentrate is enhanced
  • Plants create a safe environment; there is less bullying.

Instant Hedera helix Woerner

The Green Screens by Mobilane are available in a variety of plants and in various sizes. One of the options is a hedge of Hedera helix Woerner, a perennial and evergreen dark-coloured ivy that has different shaped leaves. Another choice with some more colour is the Pyracantha Dart’s Red, a perennial Firethorn.

Would you like to collaborate with us to contribute to a healthier environment for schools? Take a look at the options and let’s get to work together!

PM10 Research and reducing pollution with Green Screens

Research has shown that Mobilane Green Screens reduce particulate matter (PM). Particles can cause serious health problems. With the Mobilane Green Screens, it is possible to reduce particulate matter up to 40-60% and improve air quality.
