Guest blog: Instant privacy with Mobilane Green Screens by green journalist Marie Tromp

Green journalist Marie Tromp tells this time about the Mobilane Green Screens.

Suddenly, you find out that the new neighbours are loud and noisy, passers-by can look straight into the garden from the streets and that greenery in a new residential area still has to grow and develop. Surrounding your garden with a hedge gives the desired privacy.

A hedge has to grow. Only after a few years, the garden is completely fenced off. The Mobilane Green Screen is the solution. The Mobilane Green Screen consists of a steel grid completely intertwined and covered with (climbing) plants. The Green Screen is grown in a biodegradable container made from coconut fibres where the roots grow. This ensures that the Green Screens can be easily planted without damaging the roots. With Mobilane, you create a fully grown hedge in 1 day which provides instant privacy.

Very useful, the height of the Green Screens is 180 cm, the exact height of the wood fence. Mix and match wooden fences with the Green Screens or use the Greens Screens fully to create a boundary fence. The Green Screens are available in different sizes. You can use the different sizes in various situations. The hedges with a height of 120 cm is suitable to cover dustbins and waste containers. The Green Screens are also available in 2 meters.

A lot of variation

Ivy, or Hedera, is the classic among the Green Screens. Evergreen, fast growing and loved by birds for nesting. Variegated Ivy such as white variegated and yellow variegated Ivy is now also available as Green Screens.

Pyracantha Dart’s Red is a hardy firethorn and is a dense hedge. It will be impossible for burglars and animals to get into the garden. You can hear the white flowers bloom, they are full of buzzing bees. After the Summer, the red berries attract many birds who loves to eat it.

The Euonymus Dart’s Blanket is an evergreen creeping plant that likes to grow upwards in the screen. In Autumn and Winter, the plant changes from green to bronze and dark red. This gives the garden an atmospheric Winter mood. As soon as the temperature rises during the Spring, the fresh green colour returns. This plant requires the least maintenance of all species. Pruning once a year is enough.

Tips

– Alternate Green Screens of the white variegated Ivy ‘White Ripple’ or Glacier with the green Hedera helix ‘Green Ripple’ or the large-leaved Hedera ‘Hibernica’

– Wave your arms and make noise before you start pruning. If there are flying birds, check the Green Screen for bird nests. Postpone pruning until the young birds have flown away.

Sustainable

According to Tuingeluk, two-third of a garden should consist of plants. If you count not only the ground surface but also the green walls, you will achieve that in no time. A green hedge contributes to a better living environment in the garden. The leaf filters the air, captures particulate matter and offers shelter to many insects and birds. On hot Summer days, the hedge evaporates water, which can be felt as a cool breeze in the garden.

The Mobilane Green Screens are of course grown in a sustainable way. Ladybugs and parasitic wasps are used to control lice. The plants receive water via drip lines, no irrigation water is wasted. The coconut fibre container in which the plants are grown may remain in the ground, it will digest by itself. European wood has been chosen for the wooden planters, which lasts just as long as tropical hardwood.
