Mobilane Green Screens capture fine dust in primary schools in England

When Mobilane were chosen by the London Borough of Lambeth to look at options to combat air pollution at a Lambeth school, we answered: Mobilane Green Screen and put them in touch with one of our network of installers, The Plantman Limited, to talk them through their plans.

Sustainable solutions

By assessing the environment and taking into account the school’s objective for air quality, a plan was devised to see which green solution best suited the customer’s wishes. A total of 31 ready-made hedges with a height of 2.2 metres were installed at the end of May 2017. It only took one day to install the hedges in trays with an automatic irrigation system, resulting in a living green wall 41 metres long.

Mobilane Green Screen Hedere Helix Woerner

Hedera Helix Woerner provides the density and foliage needed, giving an instant burst of leaf colour and volume. Darren Stobbart of The Plantman was impressed with the ivy quality, citing its visual impact and density as the key component in the stunning end result.

Playground Transformation

In addition to the fact that the Mobilane Ready Hedges reduce air pollution around the school by collecting fine dust, the hedges also provide a safe and natural separation for the schoolyard. Because the Hagen are fully grown, the fence provides immediate privacy and is a beautiful ‘natural’ environment where children play and grow up.

Councillor Jennifer Brathwaite, Lambeth Cabinet Member for Environment and Housing, also praised the impact the green screen was having, not only on air quality and aesthetics, but in reducing the traffic noise and ensuring total privacy – thoughts echoed by the school management, children and parents.
