A brand-new restaurant named Miss Jones has recently opened its doors in Voorburg (NL). The restaurant stretches across 1000 square meters, and its unique interior means visitors can expect an extraordinary dining experience. The atmosphere is exciting and filled with surprises: not a single seat is the same. Green space specialist Hydrozorg has installed greenery in different places around the restaurant, including two big living walls with real plants in the conservatory.
Unique contrast between greenery and “fashionably eclectic” interior
The tables in the conservatory are surrounded by vibrant greenery, bringing a sense of the outdoors inside. The overall atmosphere is perhaps best described as “urban chic”. The Miss Jones concept was conceived and designed by Rein Rambaldo, together with his wife Willemien Pieterse — both known elsewhere for their work at MaMa Kelly, De Horeca Fabriek, and Interior Label. In their own words, they describe the Miss Jones interior as “fashionably eclectic”. Guests can select dishes and cocktails on the menu from categories including “Pretty fancy food” and “Out of the Box”.
Living walls in urban chic design
Miss Jones is designed as a place to hang out, with several different rooms that seamlessly flow into one another. One of those rooms is the botanical conservatory, where the green walls speak for themselves. They really liven up the space, especially when you realize the plants are actually real. These living walls enhance the botanical concept like nothing else. “Aside from the fact that Hydrozorg is taking care of all maintenance aspects, we also use the wall as a showcase for clients at our interior design agency, De Horeca Fabriek. After all, it serves as the perfect example of how our suppliers offer quality and service,” according to Rein Rambaldo, owner and founder of Miss Jones/De Horeca Fabriek.
An efficient manual system
The two green walls at Miss Jones cover a surface area of 20 square meters, and both are equipped with a LivePanel TANK. LivePanel TANK is an irrigation system in which a supply of water is stored in a tank positioned underneath a LivePanel Living Wall. Wim Roest, project manager at Hydrozorg: “The LivePanel system is very practical and well designed, so it is a breeze to install. Thanks to its tank, or reservoir, a LivePanel Living Wall can be placed virtually anywhere, without compromising on ease of maintenance.
A quick and easy installation process
With the help of a simple timer, the plants are automatically supplied with water and plant food. “The tank only needs to be topped up every four or five weeks: No overly complicated irrigation system, but a practical and very efficient solution for a beautiful, living green wall. We have many years of experience installing living walls by different manufacturers, but this one really is the cream of the crop. With technical advice provided by the supplier, the installation process is quick and easy. Greenery has been at the core of everything I’ve done for over 20 years. Greenery brings happiness, and green walls lend any room — whether in a restaurant or an office — a wonderfully healthy and vibrant appearance,” Wim concludes.
