Wilhelmina Street in Harlingen has been transformed into the greenest of streets with the introduction of Mobilane living green screens. The street’s development is part of Plan Zuid, which includes the redevelopment plan of the former AZC site at Prins Bernhardstraat.

Energy efficient homes

110 energy-efficient homes are being built complete with additional solar panels – 8 more than the legal minimum – and a gas supply for heating. On top of these efficiency measures, there is a healthy level of planting and green elements within the landscape, courtesy of the natural Mobilane screening installed by Frisa Bergum from Friesland. The street has gone from grey to green in just two days.

Low-maintenance hedges

The residents of Plan Zuid have been closely involved with the selection of planted options  for their neighborhood. For example, it was the residents themselves who opted for the Mobilane living Green Screens.

The Mobilane Euonymus Green Screen is a slow grower, which means that the residents have minimal maintenance on the hedge because it requires relatively little pruning. Euonymus is salt-resistant, making the hedge ideal for the coastal climate in Harlingen. Even when the pavement is sprinkled with salt during the winter frosts, the residents need not worry about any deterioration of the quality of the hedges.
