1972 – First Vademecum Darthuizer Tree Nurseries
A total of five editions of the Darthuizer Vademecum were published. Four of these were compiled with the cooperation of Louis Ilsink, while the fifth edition came about with the contribution of his son Guido Ilsink. This internationally highly regarded reference work comprises no less than 496 pages in the current fifth edition, equipped with more than 1,000 photographs illustrating applications and details of plants and shrubs. A vademecum is a compact reference work that presents specialized information in a clear and accessible manner. The Darthuizer Vademecum has developed into an essential tool in training centers, where it is used both as a study book and as a reference work.
The second edition appeared in 1978, followed by the third in 1987, the fourth in 1994 and the fifth and current edition in 2005. This latest edition has been expanded with new sections such as perennials, grasses, bamboos, ferns, ornamental grasses, aquatic plants, Mediterranean plants and bulbs. Thanks to these additions, the Vademecum has become even more complete, which has significantly increased its practical value. What makes this fifth edition special is the detailed description of the modern cultivar assortment, including extensive tables and overviews. This makes it a unique reference work for designers, users and students. Today, the Darthuizer Vademecum is still used in various courses, where it serves as a valuable source for knowledge about plants and their applications.
