Climate engineering company adds natural greenery for better indoor climate

An optimal indoor climate is very important because it directly affects employees’ well-being. Relatively small adjustments can already have an impact. Placing plants in the room is one of them. The relative humidity in rooms with plants, for instance, is on average about 5% higher than in rooms without plants, according to WUR. In winter, that improvement can even reach 17%. Therefor many companies add natural greenery to improve indoor climate.

Green wall to improve indoor climate

German company G+K Gebäudetechnik is very familiar with air-conditioning technology, it is one of the main activities of the Zittau-based company. However, G+K’s company building itself had very dry air. Thomas Kurzke, managing director of G+K Gebäudetechnik therefore wanted a plant wall. Firstly because of its attractive appearance, and secondly, and most importantly because the wall’s greening significantly improves the indoor climate. The plant wall is deliberately planned in the reception area, so that both visitors and staff benefit. The space is open, allowing the air purified by plants to spread throughout the building.

Space-efficient and modular

LivePanel is a patented, modular plant wall system with interchangeable plant cassettes filled with substrate. The ability to exchange plants was especially important to the customer. It is an extremely space-saving system – a very decisive argument for its placement in the entrance area. A total area of 13.54 m² was planted with greenery in this project. The cassettes of the system feature plant pots in which the plants are placed. Each row of cassettes is placed in a profile rail, which also serves as a water reservoir. The plants supply themselves with water by capillary action.

LivePanel TANK improves indoor climate

The customer decided to supply the plant wall with water and nutrients through a tank belonging to the plant wall system: LivePanel TANK. This means that the system can be watered autonomously without the need for a connection to the mains water and wastewater network. A tank is placed under the LivePanel in which the water is stored. The tank is filled manually with water and feed. The system only needs a power connection for a timer-controlled pump that supplies the gore profiles with water from the tank. For greenery, the “Pixie” “Good Air” plant mix consisting of Syngonium Pixie, Schefflera arboricola, Philodendron Scandens, Spathiphyllum Cupido, Nephrolepsis Green Lady was chosen.
