Swiss Dental Spa in De Bilt (The Netherlands) has developed a concept that makes treatment more comfortable and accessible, while offering a complete spa experience at the same time. A living green wall by Mobilane forms a major part of this experience.

An oasis of calm with a green wall

Sima Bleij and Steven Lim, owners of Swiss Dental Spa, had a clear idea in mind of what the oral hygiene practice should ideally look like. “We wanted to create a homely atmosphere, with a kind of spa feel. We don’t have magazines lying around; instead, we offer our guests ‘The Book of Rituals’, which is entirely dedicated to the philosophy of ‘The Art of Soulful Living’. Each chapter focuses on a different theme on the compass: from ‘Authenticity’ and ‘Kindness’ to ‘Joy’, ‘Passion’, ‘Love’, and much more. We want people to take a break from things that aren’t essential, so they completely clear their minds for a while and become aware of their surroundings,” according to Bleij.
With its LivePanel indoor green wall, Swiss Dental Spa has brought nature indoors. “We spend so much of our lives indoors. The greenery helps people feel calmer, and on a subconscious level, the wall also helps reduce any fear people might have of visiting a dental hygienist.”

Bringing nature indoors with biophillic design

“The look of the wall is very warm, and it really brings the space to life,” Bleij continues. “We live inside our own heads most of the time. And when we do get outside, we are in a hurry, and we take nature for granted. By just sitting down and looking at the plant wall, you automatically ask yourself: ‘why do I barely notice all that nature surrounding me?’ We have now been able to bring nature indoors with a living green wall. The wall never gets boring. I sometimes let my mind wander while staring at it over my lunch break, and then suddenly, I realize I’ve spotted a new pattern.”
Visitors are curious and fascinated when they enter the Spa lounge and see the green wall with plants. “Everyone thinks the plants are fake at first. They all want to feel them. The indoor living wall always looks so stunning and lively! Sometimes, people also comment on the fragrance. There is an earthy and natural scent coming from it.”

Oral hygienist as a wellness experience

Bleij and Lim wanted to create a place where they could make people feel better. The team took over an old, existing practice and wanted to turn it into something completely different. Bleij explains: “We work with a new device that cleans the mouth effectively without excessive treatment, which can sometimes affect the gums. Our method involves no pain, annoying vibrations or sounds, or ice-cold water. That way, we’ve been able to turn a visit to the dental hygienist into a wellness experience. Appearance is important to people: we go to the hairdresser, beautician, or skin therapist to make sure we always look our best. We exercise and eat healthily, so why not visit the dental hygienist every three months? There’s no better way to maintain your oral health. We wanted to create a complete experience, and that included bringing nature indoors with a living green wall.”
