At the Pro-Logis Hayes Distribution Centre, Hedera Screens realised an outstanding installation of vertical greenery using the Mobilane WallPlanter system. Spread across two buildings, the project brings over 500 m² of lush vertical planting to the façades, delivering a striking and sustainable transformation of the site.
In total, 20 WallPlanters of 1.8 metres and 190 WallPlanters of 2.2 metres were installed. Specified already at the design stage by the architects, the WallPlanter system was chosen not only to enhance aesthetics but also to deliver measurable environmental and social benefits.
A Living Façade with Lasting Impact
This large-scale project demonstrates the tangible value of vertical greenery, contributing to cleaner air, greater biodiversity, and enhanced well-being:
-
-
CO₂ Reduction
The green wall captures 2.3 kg of CO₂ per m² per year. Across the 500 m² façade, this adds up to 1,150 kg of CO₂ annually, equal to the impact of 45 trees. -
Oxygen Production
Each square metre produces 1.7 kg of oxygen per year. For the entire installation, this means an impressive 850 kg of oxygen released into the atmosphere every year. -
Fine Dust Filtration
One square metre of Hedera (ivy) filters up to 6 grams of fine particulate matter per day. Over 500 m², this equals 3 kg per day, adding up to more than 1,095 kg per year. -
Social Value
The WallPlanter system is cultivated at Mobilane’s social workplace, employing more than 250 colleagues with barriers to the traditional labour market, adding social impact to environmental performance. -
Biodiversity
The living wall provides shelter and nesting opportunities for birds, butterflies, and insects, strengthening the local ecosystem. -
Well-being and Productivity
Scientific studies show that greenery in and around workplaces fosters a positive mindset, increases job satisfaction, reduces absenteeism, and boosts productivity.
-

From vision to vertical reality
The installation took place in several stages over a number of weeks. Using cherry pickers, MEWPs, and scissor lifts, the WallPlanter modules were mounted safely and efficiently. Thanks to its modular design, the WallPlanter system enabled a smooth and effective installation process.
A Green Success Story
Mobilane partner Hedera Screens is proud of the result, which showcases not only the ease of installation but also the powerful aesthetic, social, and environmental benefits of vertical greenery. Georgie Banton, Contracts Manager at Winvic Construction, expressed being “very pleased” with the final outcome of the project.
The Pro-Logis Hayes Distribution Centre now stands as a compelling example of how vertical greenery can enrich architecture, enhance biodiversity, and make a measurable contribution to cleaner air.
